Myopia (Nearsightedness)

Myopia is a growing problem among children. Recent research shows the prevalence of myopiain 6-8 year olds is 6% and increases to 29% by age 11-13. While glasses compensate for the blurry vision from myopia, they do not treat the underlying issue – an eye that is growing too long. Most children that develop myopia experience deteriorating vision as their myopia gets worse. We now know that the higher levels of myopia increase the risk of serious eye conditions such as retinal detachment and glaucoma.

Recognizing that myopia is a growing problem among children, Valley Vision Optometry created a sub-brand, everlook, to focus on the prevention, treatment, and management on myopia. Children diagnosed with myopia or myopia progression in their BeyondSight evaluation are offered a referral to Everlook to see if they may be candidates for Myopia Management.
